A small band of 6 club members travelled to Divis Mountain, overlooking Belfast, on a fairly cold and windy day. The event chosen for the club championships was the third of LVO’s Autumn Trophy series. Thankfully the rain and sleet stayed away during the event and although the terrain consisted of many marches, in places, the runnability was good. The area is not particularly difficult but any small errors in navigation can be costly.
All six competed on the Green course (5kms) :
As in the last few years competitors had been given handicap times (mins per km) based on results at previous competitions during 2018 and the overall placings determined by how much the finishing times are above or below the target time for the length of course. When the handicaps are taken into account these are the final results:
|Charlie||9.33 mins below target|
|Anthony||4.29 mins below target|
|David||3.15 mins above target|
|Frazer||6.35 mins above target|
|Des||14.30 mins above target|
Congratulations to Charlie who retained the Club Champion title for the second year.
LVO Autumn Series 3 – Results
To warm up and relax after the event Rachel had prepared a wonderful choice of soup and artisan breads, followed by Christmas cake (yes, it’s almost that time of year again!) at their home on the Esplanade, Holywood. A big thank-you to Charlie & Rachel for their warm invite.
The penultimate orienteering competition of 2018 is scheduled for Tyrella on Sat 17 Nov, being the final Colour event for 2018. This sandhill area always provides tricky and enjoyable navigation and no doubt the forthcoming event will not disappoint.
Our traditional Christmas/New Year final event of the year will take place on Sat 29 December, with venue to be confirmed in due course. Continuing our practice for the past number of years this event will be followed by lunch and AGM in a local hostelry.
