Our club heard the sad news this morning of the death of Noel Bogle. Noel was the main founding member of our club almost exactly 50 years ago and played a major part in establishing and developing the N. Ireland Orienteering Association over many years. He was also heavily involved in forming close links with the Irish Orienteering Association which continue today.
Noel was Chairman of N.I.O.A from 1975 to 1977 and Chairman of NWOC from 1974 to 1980 and again from 2000 to 2016. Noel was appointed Honorary President of NWOC in 2016 and was the first recipient of the Colin Henderson Trophy for Services to N.Ireland Orienteering in 2021. A well deserved acknowledgement of his dedication to our Sport.
The funeral service will be at Christ Church in Derry City this Friday at 1.00 pm.
Noel will be sadly missed by many officials and competitors in Orienteering over the last fifty years, particularly the many young people he introduced and encouraged to participate in the sport.
