Downhill Club Score 1st May – Final Info

To all club members coming tomorrow to Downhill.

This will be a training event with two separate Scores courses, each with a 25-minute time limit. This is partly due to a large swathe of the forest having been thinned and littered with brashings, however the more interesting areas remain unscathed.

Controls will be the smaller training kites.

There will be no SI units and no manual punching, it will be an honesty event, however Charlie has put the 2 courses onto Maprun, if anyone wishes to use that, please make sure you have downloaded the latest Maprun6 on your phone. Also – you can download the courses before you leave home.

  • Downhill 1st May 2021 Score A PXAS ScoreV25
  • Downhill 1st May 2021 Score B PXAS ScoreV25

You will find these files in MapRun – “Select Event /UK/Northern Ireland/Co. Londonderry”.

NWOC Club Outdoor AGM

Weather permitting, we hope to have a short outdoor AGM, over at Lions Gate car park where Al’s coffee is located, NOTE there is a car park charge for non-National Trust members, however it is only a short walk away from Downhill forest.

If weather doesn’t permit we will arrange an AGM by Zoom at a later date.

Local Orienteering starts 1st May!

NWOC will carefully restart Orienteering on the 1st May with a simple Score Event in Downhill Forest.

To keep things safe and simple this one will be for NWOC members only.

Also please let us know you are coming and BOOK a MAP

No we are not running on the beach – I just like the picture!

Please see the Event Page for full details.

Possible First Aid Training for Members

Unfortunately, the First Aid Course qualifications which most of our club members had obtained have now expired after 3 years. The same has happened for LVO members.
As part of our BOF Insurance for events we must have at least one qualified first aider present.

The Rescue Emergency Care (REC) 1, a one-day course, is adequate for most of the areas we use, but a REC 2 (a two-day course) qualification is needed for more mountainous areas. It is important that we have at least one or two members trained each year.

LVO is trying to organise a REC 1 Course on Saturday 13th or 20th March at Castlewellan or Donard Forest. Most of the spaces will be taken by LVO but if they have one or two spare then they will offer them to NWOC.

If you would like to attend this course then please get back me indication the date that suits. The club will cover the cost of the course. To the best of my knowledge, Charlie is the only member with an up-to-date qualification ( REC 2).

Please get back to me if you are interested in attending.
