All windblown trees are mapped. \n\n\n\nThe event will feature artificial barriers to help intensify route choice. All Courses will feature these. \n\n\n\nIn the terrain\, they will be physically marked with a double line of red and white tape with notices attached. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the map artificial barriers will be clearly marked using a purple line. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese all are all singular strands\, ie not ‘maze’ type barriers. Above are a few examples of how these will appear on the map. There are approx 4 of these across the whole area. \n\n\n\nExample Competitor Barrier\n\n\n\nThese barriers are strictly uncrossable and must be treated as such throughout the course. Runners must navigate around them—plan your routes accordingly! \n\n\n\nThere are a number of obvious pipelines in the campus which have been mapped as prominent line features. They are above head height and can easily be passed underneath. \n\n\n\nCompetitors should be aware that narrow passageways will be used. Please approach these with caution\, and KEEP LEFT to avoid collisions. \n\n\n\nMap\n\n\n\nAll Courses will use an ISSprOM 2019 standard A4 1:4 000 scale map with 2.5m contours. SUMMARY:Irish Middle Distance Championships 2025
DESCRIPTION:Magilligan dunes are bounded to the north by the Atlantic ocean fringed by a six mile long beach. To the south lies Lough Foyle\, a tidal sea lough\, and the two converging shores join at Magilligan Point. Here a Martello Tower (built 1812) overlooks the narrow straight to Co Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. A small car and foot passenger ferry makes regular crossings giving direct access to the popular “Wild Atlantic Way” tourism route. \n\n\n\nThe middle distance race will make use of the terrain to the North West of the area adjacent to Magilligan point and the Martello Tower. \n\n\n\nThe Martello Tower can be accessed from a path near the ferry embarkation point.\n\n\n\nThe area is a mix of intricate dunes\, interspersed with more level areas\, which afford some very fast running. The map was fully updated in September 2024. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTravel Directions\n\n\n\nFrom Limavady take the A2 to Bellarena and Benone. The event is about ten miles north of the town and should take about twenty minutes by car. The competition area will be clearly sign-posted to the left off this main road. \n\n\n\nFrom Coleraine take the A2 to Castlerock\, Downhill and past Benone. The competition area will be clearly sign-posted to the right off this main road. \n\n\n\nCar Parking\n\n\n\nThe parking area will be available from 9.30am and will be signposted to the right on the approach to the competition area. All participants must show their car park passes (which will be emailed out) to gain entry. Please have photographic identification available to show if requested. \n\n\n\nEvent Layout\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToilets\n\n\n\nToilets will be available close to parking . Only ONE toilet will be available close to the start. \n\n\n\nClub tents and Finish Area\n\n\n\nThere will be space for club tents close to the final run-in\, this will be taped to keep the competition area OOB. \n\n\n\nEnquiries\n\n\n\nEnquiries will be located close to the finish. Loan SI-cards can be collected from here. \n\n\n\nColour Courses\n\n\n\nLight Green\, Orange and Yellow courses must be booked in advance of the competition. NO ENTRY ON THE DAY. \n\n\n\nTerrain\n\n\n\nOpen sand dunes\, generally low lying with a maximum rise of approximately 20m and with some extremely intricate areas. Runability is variable from very fast to tough. Progress is hindered in some areas by scratchy vegetation which can be up to waist high. Gaiters or other similar leg protection and full leg cover is recommended. \n\n\n\nMapping Notes\n\n\n\nAll areas used by the courses were resurveyed in September 2024\, primarily to pick up additional paths\, fences and vegetation. Magnetic north has been updated. Symbols have been updated to ISOM 2017-2 standard except for contours and form-lines which have been made slightly thinner to improve readability. Prominent trees have been mapped using the standard large and small prominent tree symbols. Be aware that this does not mean that every isolate tree is mapped (“prominence is in the eye of the beholder\, who in this case is the mapper!”). \n\n\n\nMap\n\n\n\n\nScale 1:10000 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 1 – 3.\n\n\n\nScale 1:7500 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 4 – 9.\n\n\n\nScale 1:5000 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 10 and 11\n\n\n\n\nPrevious map from 2015\n\n\n\nStart\n\n\n\nStarts are from 11.00 to 14.00 with the exception of Course 4 which continues to 15.00 owing to the very large entry in the associated classes. \n\n\n\nThe start for all courses is about 1km from the parking and assembly area along a tarmac road. \n\n\n\nThere will be only ONE toilet at the start. \n\n\n\nWater Stations\n\n\n\nThere will be no water stations on the Middle distance event courses. SUMMARY:Irish Individual Championship 2025
DESCRIPTION:Classic Race\n\n\n\nMagilligan dunes are bounded to the north by the Atlantic ocean fringed by a six mile long beach. To the south lies Lough Foyle\, a tidal sea lough\, and the two converging shores join at Magilligan Point. \n\n\n\nThe classic race will take place in the central section of these dunes. The beach will not feature on the courses\, but can be visited afterwards accessed from Benone or Downhill. There is also the option of visiting Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne – a singular cliff top fantasy built by the eccentric “Mitred Earl” of Bristol. \n\n\n\nSouth East end of the 6 mile long Magilligan beach is overlooked by the Mussenden Temple (NT)\n\n\n\nThe area is a mix of intricate dunes\, interspersed with more level areas\, which afford some very fast running. The map was fully updated in September 2024. \n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMagilligan East \n\n\n\nTravel Directions\n\n\n\nFrom Limavady take the A2 to Bellarena and Benone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToilets\n\n\n\nToilets will be available at the parking next to the assembly area. Limited toilets will be available at the start. \n\n\n\nAssembly Area\n\n\n\nThe assembly area is adjacent to the parking area. Gazebos will be available for competitors to share. Very limited space will be available for club tents. There will be a good view of the elite course spectator controls from the assembly area and part of the walk to the start. \n\n\n\nEnquiries\n\n\n\nEnquiries will be adjacent to download in the Assembly Area. Loan SI-cards can be collected from here. \n\n\n\nRelay teams \n\n\n\nThese must be must registered at enquiries before 16.00. \n\n\n\nColour Courses\n\n\n\nLight Green\, Orange and Yellow maps must be booked in advance of the competition. NO ENTRY ON THE DAY. \n\n\n\nTerrain\n\n\n\nOpen sand dunes\, generally low lying with a maximum rise of approximately 20m and with some extremely intricate areas. Runnability varies from very fast to tough. In some areas (mapped as vegetation slow running) progress is hindered by low growing prickly Burnet Rose. Gaiters or other similar leg protection is recommended. \n\n\n\nOut of Bounds areas\n\n\n\nAreas over-printed on the maps with purple cross-hatching are out of bounds. Please also note that all fields adjoining the competition area are out of bounds also. \n\n\n\nFences and Crossing Points\n\n\n\nWhere fences on the map are overprinted in purple as being uncrossable\, they must not be crossed. At these locations crossing points have been provided and must be used. \n\n\n\nMapping Notes\n\n\n\nAll areas used by the courses were resurveyed in September 2024\, primarily to pick up additional paths\, fences and vegetation. Symbols have been updated to ISOM 2017-2 standard except for contours and form-lines which have been made slightly thinner to improve readability. Military targets are represented by the standard black “x” symbol. Flagpoles are represented by the standard black “o” symbol. Prominent trees have been mapped using the standard large and small prominent tree symbols. Be aware that this does not mean that every isolate tree is mapped (“prominence is in the eye of the beholder\, who in this case is the mapper!”). \n\n\n\n\nScale 1:10000 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 1 – 6.\n\n\n\nScale 1:7500 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 7 – 15.\n\n\n\nScale 1:7500 with 2.5m contour interval for Yellow\, Orange and Light Green courses.\n\n\n\n\nPrevious map from 2008\n\n\n\n\nClassic Course / Class final details \n\n\n\nCourseClassCONTROLSlengthScale1M21E3915.91:10\,000   2M18E\, M20E279.61:10\,000 W21E 3W18E\, W20E226.71:10\,000   4M35\, M40\, M45249.11:10\,000 M21L 5M50217.71:10\,000   6M16226.41:10\,000 W35  W21L\, M21S    7M55175.51:7\,500 W16\, W40  M18S\, M20S .8 M60165.3 1:7\,500.9M65164.71:7\,500 W45\, W50 10M70124.01:7\,500 W55\, W60\, W65  W21S    11M75\, M80\, M85133.11:7\,500 W70 12W75\, W80\, W85102.01:7\,500   13M14\, W14144.01:7\,500 W18S\, W20S  Light Green    14M12\, W12112.51:7\,500 Orange 15M10\, W10112.01:7\,500 Yellow Non Championship classes are in italics\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nA separate course for M60 (course 8) has been added to accommodate the larger than expected entry within the start window.
