SUMMARY:Irish Middle Distance Championships 2025
DESCRIPTION:Magilligan dunes are bounded to the north by the Atlantic ocean fringed by a six mile long beach. To the south lies Lough Foyle\, a tidal sea lough\, and the two converging shores join at Magilligan Point. Here a Martello Tower (built 1812) overlooks the narrow straight to Co Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. A small car and foot passenger ferry makes regular crossings giving direct access to the popular “Wild Atlantic Way” tourism route. \n\n\n\nThe middle distance race will make use of the terrain to the North West of the area adjacent to Magilligan point and the Martello Tower. \n\n\n\nThe Martello Tower can be accessed from a path near the ferry embarkation point.\n\n\n\nThe area is a mix of intricate dunes\, interspersed with more level areas\, which afford some very fast running. The map was fully updated in September 2024. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTravel Directions\n\n\n\nFrom Limavady take the A2 to Bellarena and Benone. The event is about ten miles north of the town and should take about twenty minutes by car. The competition area will be clearly sign-posted to the left off this main road. \n\n\n\nFrom Coleraine take the A2 to Castlerock\, Downhill and past Benone. The competition area will be clearly sign-posted to the right off this main road. \n\n\n\nCar Parking\n\n\n\nThe parking area will be available from 9.30am and will be signposted to the right on the approach to the competition area. All participants must show their car park passes (which will be emailed out) to gain entry. Please have photographic identification available to show if requested. \n\n\n\nEvent Layout\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToilets\n\n\n\nToilets will be available close to parking . Only ONE toilet will be available close to the start. \n\n\n\nClub tents and Finish Area\n\n\n\nThere will be space for club tents close to the final run-in\, this will be taped to keep the competition area OOB. \n\n\n\nEnquiries\n\n\n\nEnquiries will be located close to the finish. Loan SI-cards can be collected from here. \n\n\n\nColour Courses\n\n\n\nLight Green\, Orange and Yellow courses must be booked in advance of the competition. NO ENTRY ON THE DAY. \n\n\n\nTerrain\n\n\n\nOpen sand dunes\, generally low lying with a maximum rise of approximately 20m and with some extremely intricate areas. Runability is variable from very fast to tough. Progress is hindered in some areas by scratchy vegetation which can be up to waist high. Gaiters or other similar leg protection and full leg cover is recommended. \n\n\n\nMapping Notes\n\n\n\nAll areas used by the courses were resurveyed in September 2024\, primarily to pick up additional paths\, fences and vegetation. Magnetic north has been updated. Symbols have been updated to ISOM 2017-2 standard except for contours and form-lines which have been made slightly thinner to improve readability. Prominent trees have been mapped using the standard large and small prominent tree symbols. Be aware that this does not mean that every isolate tree is mapped (“prominence is in the eye of the beholder\, who in this case is the mapper!”). \n\n\n\nMap\n\n\n\n\nScale 1:10000 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 1 – 3.\n\n\n\nScale 1:7500 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 4 – 9.\n\n\n\nScale 1:5000 with 2.5m contour interval for Courses 10 and 11\n\n\n\n\nPrevious map from 2015\n\n\n\nStart\n\n\n\nStarts are from 11.00 to 14.00 with the exception of Course 4 which continues to 15.00 owing to the very large entry in the associated classes. \n\n\n\nThe start for all courses is about 1km from the parking and assembly area along a tarmac road. \n\n\n\nThere will be only ONE toilet at the start. \n\n\n\nWater Stations\n\n\n\nThere will be no water stations on the Middle distance event courses. Please ensure you are well hydrated and bring your own water. \n\n\n\nFinish\n\n\n\nPlease make sure that you manually “punch” one of the finish SI stations – beacon mode is not enabled. \n\n\n\nThe finish will be located approximately 200m from the parking. \n\n\n\nLoan SI-cards must be handed in at download unless you intend to use them for the Classic and/or relays. \n\n\n\nCourses Close\n\n\n\nAll course will close at 4:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\nMap Collection\n\n\n\nAt the completion of your run maps will be placed in a secure bag until the last runner has started. \n\n\n\nThe clubs with more than 10 runners at the event will have their own specifically labelled bag. The clubs are LVO\, Cork O\, CNOC\, GEN\, BOC\, SET\, FIN\, FERMO\, 3 ROC\, SEVO\, Kerry O and NWOC. \n\n\n\nCompetitors not in the named clubs will place their maps in bags relating to their Bib number 1-99\, 100-199\, 200-299\, 300-399 & 400-499. To help ensure you get your map back\, markers will be available for you to write your Bib number on the back of your map. \n\n\n\nAfter final runners have started\, a club representative should pick up their club maps and distribute to fellow club members. \n\n\n\nNumbered Bags of maps will be brought to the Enquiries tent for collection by individual runners. \n\n\n\nPlease note: any maps not collected will be brought to the Enquiries tent on the following day only. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Last Lap Café \n\n\n\nThe Last Lap Café will be back at IOC providing tea/coffee/snacks and sandwiches from Friday to Monday at IOC and we are delighted to be working with them again.  \n\n\n\n\nClasses / Courses\n\n\n\nChampionship Classes\n\n\n\nCourse NumberClasses1M21E\, M18E\, M20E2M35\, M40\, M45\, M503W21E\, W18E\, W20E4 M16\, M55\, M60\, W355M65\, W16\, W40\, W456W50\, W55\, W607M70\, M14\, W65\, W148M12\, W129M75\, M80\, W70\, W7510M10\, W1011M85\, W80\, W85\n\n\n\nNon-championship classes\n\n\n\nCourse NumberClasses4Men Short6Women Short7M/W18 Short\, Light Green8M/W16 Short\, Orange10Yellow  \n\n\n\nCourse Details\n\n\n\nCourseControlsLengthClimb1215.7 km170 m2184.7 km180 m3174.4 km125 m4174.5 km125 m5154.0 km105 m6184.0 km125 m7143.6 km100 m8112.0 km40 m9122.0 km40 m10101.7 km30 m11121.8 km   40m\n\n\n\n\nCosts – Age Class Courses\n\n\n\nEnter DATESSeniorJunior / Full Time StudentFamilyby 31st March£16£8£401st April to 13th April£18£9£45\n\n\n\n\n\nCosts – Colour Coded Courses\n\n\n\nSeniorJunior / Full Time Student£10£5\n\n\n\n\n\nEntries Closed (no late entries available)\n\n\n\n\nEnter Online (entries closed 13th April)\n\n\n\nEdit Entries\n\n\n\nCancel Entry\n\n\n\nEntry List\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDogs\n\n\n\nIn common with the other days\, dogs are not allowed in the area. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrize Giving\n\n\n\nPrize giving (with social) will be at Limavady United Football Club on Saturday Evening at 19.00.
