Loughermore Forest is one of the largest Forest Service Plantations in the Sperrins. The Forest contains the summit of Loughermore mountain which gives superb views across the Sperrin range and into Donegal. The area is now largely unused for Orienteering as almost all the mature conifer areas have been clear felled and the remaining dense blocks of trees provide little navigational interest. However the area still offers good accessible upland walking.
Parking and Access
Unfortunately its recreational potential has been neglected in recent years with public parking being closed and the recreational path network being lost to felling. However there are still places where local people park on the roadside and walk in the forest and these are marked on the OpenStreetMap map below.
NB this map has not been updated since 2005 and there has been additional clear felling since then.
Postcode Note: A postcode / street name and number are provided below to assist Sat Nav users. Please note that forests, mountains and car parks do not have postcodes – the code given will normally relate to a residential property which may be some distance from the parking. Please use Sat Nav in conjunction with the maps provided to find your actual destination!
